Location

The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is situated within the city limits of El Paso, Texas just north of Mexico and the Rio Grande River.

Tribal Land

A total of 3,105.3 acres of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo land is held in trust for the tribe by the United States Department of the Interior. Much of tribal trust land supports tribal government offices and the tribal housing communities. The tribe has also invested in the acquisition of property for tribal businesses and future development. Some of these properties are held in simple fee title. The Pueblo lands are located in El Paso County (City of El Paso and City of Socorro) and Hudspeth County. Not including the ranch, the tribe owns and additional 3,007.6 acres.

The tribe also owns the Chilicote Ranch totaling 70,359.9 acres. The ranch is located in Hudspeth County and is comprised of grasslands, hills, canyons, and highlands. In addition to the diverse wild life and plant life, the Chilicote houses the tribe’s cattle ranching operations.

Tribal Population

In April 2008, the Tribal Census Department reported 1,615 enrolled members. The tribal member make-up is distributed as follows:

47% male
54% female
24% under the age of 17
7% between 18 and 21 years old
56% between the ages of 22 and 55
14% are 55 or older

Economy

The tribe employs approximately 400 individuals. Employees are disbursed throughout tribal government operations programs and tribal enterprises and corporations. More information regarding tribal businesses is provided in the enterprise section of this website.
